It packs essential scrambler styling into an accessible package at a competitive price. Utilizing the same 471cc parallel-twin engine found in successful models such as the Rebel 500, this retro-styled machine is light and agile, serving as an enjoyable entry point for everyone from beginners to experienced riders.

The scrambler aesthetic stands out through its minimalism. Originally developed to adapt street bikes for off-road use, this style has evolved into a uniquely rugged look for pavement riding. Key nostalgic elements include a wide front wheel, high-mounted exhaust, flat dual seat, twin shocks, fork gaiters, and rubber tank pads. Round LED lighting units for the headlight, turn signals, and taillight enhance the SCL500’s iconic vibe, while blacked-out mechanical parts create a tough, minimalist appearance. An LCD display supplies essential data like gear position and fuel usage, with the ignition switch located beneath the left side of the fuel tank.

Enjoyable, user-friendly, and dependable, the SCL500 runs on an engine delivering robust low-end torque and smooth, linear power, making it a joy to ride in diverse conditions. It shares the same 471cc, eight-valve, liquid-cooled parallel-twin powerplant featured in the Rebel 500, NX500, CB500F, and CBR500R.

The crankshaft pins are set at 180°, accompanied by a primary couple-balancer positioned behind the cylinders near the bike’s center of gravity. The crankcases feature centrifugally cast thin-walled sleeves with an internal layout that minimizes pumping losses typical of a 180° firing order. Scissor gears on the primary and balancer assemblies reduce noise. The crank counterweight is shaped specifically for couple-balance, and its reduced mass allows the engine to rev freely with low inertia. A deep oil sump contains 3.2 liters.

Bore and stroke measure 67.0mm and 66.8mm respectively, with a compression ratio of 10.7:1. Striations on the piston skirt expand surface area by creating gaps for improved oil flow and lubrication. An AB 1 salt-bath treatment creates a protective oxidization membrane.

Description compiled from publicly available manufacturer information and is not an official OEM listing.
